Description

A Crimea, Indian Mutiny, Turkish Crimea (British Issue) group of 3 to Pte. Thomas Farmer 71st Foot, comprising Crimea Medal 1854-56, one clasp Sebastopol, (Thos. Farmer. 71st Foot), Officially impressed, Indian Mutiny Medal, 1857-58, one clasp Central India, (Thos. Farmer. 71st High L.I.), Turkish Crimea, British Issue, unnamed as issued. Housed in a contemporary box, lightly toned very fine.

Thomas Farmer attested in Edinburgh for the 79th Foot on the 8th January 1847, giving his trade on enlistment as Book Binder, he was 17 years and 10 months old he served abroad for 8 years and 5 months, serving in Canada, The Crimea, East Indies and Malta. He transferred to the 1/71st Foot on the 1st April 1850, he was tried by Court Martial twice once in 1852 and once in 1856n when he was imprisoned for one month, he received his two good conduct badges in the first in 1858, the second in 1860 he was discharged at his own request “being in possession of two good conduct badges and having served for over 13 years at Horse Guards on the 9th December 1861.

Sold with copied service papers and relevant medal rolls confirming both clasps.
