Jewitt, 1/R.H.A., who was captured on the 12th June 1940 at Valery-En-Caux, comprising: Military Medal, GVIR, (4386259 Gnr. W.R. Jewitt. R.A.), 1939-45 Star, Burma Star, 1939-45 Defence Medal, 1939-45 War Medal, unnamed as issued, mounted for wear, lightly toned very fine.
The group is sold with a contemporarily written copied type-script manuscript of some 218 pages written by Driver Curry relating the story of his and Gunner Jewitt’s capture and subsequent escape in great detail, a unique contemporary minute by-minute account of the action as 1 R.H.A. protected the retreat to Dunkirk, fighting as infantry and then final capture and the harsh treatment meted out as the soldiers were marched into captivity.
