Description

Early Anglo‑Saxon (c. 600‑775), silver Sceatta, continental issues (c. 695‑740), series X, ‘Wodan’ head type. Facing bearded ‘Wodan’ head of good style with long hair, ‘braids’ of hair formed with crosses with pellet terminals each side within linear circle. Rev, dragon left, facing right with pellet in annulet eye and three‑forked tail within linear border, 0.71gm (S. 797; N. 116). Good Very Fine and well struck, darkly toned, tiny flan split at 6 o’clock.
