Description

Edward I (1272-1307), Farthing, issued May-Dec 1279, London mint, class 1c, trifoliate crowned facing bust within linear circle, legend surrounds EDWAR DVS REX. Rev, long cross, tri-pellets in angles, legend reads LOИDOИIEИSIS, 0.38g (S.1443a; N.1051/2).

A distinguished example of this seldom seen type, the portrait both balanced and detailed, pleasing with depth to the hair and showing an expression. Legends clear in the main, few soft spots on both sides. An intriguing small coin, extremely fine. Rare as a type and especially rare so well preserved.
