Description
Edward III (1327-77), Half Noble, Fourth coinage (1351-77), Treaty period (1361-69), Group A, Tower mint, mintmark cross potent, facing King in ship standing with upright sword and quartered shield, double saltire stops, legend surrounds EDWARD DEI G REX ANGL D HYB Z AQT. Rev, ornate cross terminating in lis ends, lombardic Є in centre, crowned lions in angles all within tressure of eight arcs, trefoils in spandrels; double saltire stops, +DOMINE NE IN FVRORE TVO ARGVAS ME, 3.74g (S.1506; N.1238; cf. Schneider 80).
Struck with partially rusty dies, hence the slight granular appearance; King, ship, waves and legends all well-defined. Rev, a clear depiction of the cross motif, crowned lions with concise legible legends. A strong example retaining much of its original mint brilliance, good very fine.
