Edward III (1327-1377), Noble, Fourth coinage, pre-treaty period, London, series G, issued between 1356-1361, sub series Gg/gd, mint mark cross 3, crowned king facing in ship holding upright sword and quartered shield, ships rigging three ropes to the left and one to the right, beaded circle surrounding legend reads EDWΛRD DEIGRΛ REX ΛNGL Z FRANC DHYB, single saltire stops both sides. Rev, small lombardic E in centre of a floriated cross with lis terminals, lions and crowns in angles all within a tressure of eight arcs, fleurs in spandrels, one annulet either side of the lis ending the top armof the reverse cross, legend reads IHC AVTEM. TRANCIENS.P.MEDIVM.ILLORVM.IBAT, (S.1490; N.1180; Schneider cf. 47). Extremely fine or better, once creased but now straightened.
