Description
Edward IV, (1461-70), first reign, Groat, light coinage (1464-70), mule of type VI/Vd, London mint, facing crowned bust within double tressure of nine arcs, quatrefoils at neck, fleurs on cusps, mintmark sun on obverse and rose on reverse, legend surrounds EDWARD DI GRA REX ANGL Z FRANC. Rev, long cross fourchée, trefoil of pellets in angles, reads POSVI DEVM A DIVTORE MEVM, inner script CIVITAS LONDON, die break on the reverse 3.13g (S.2000; N.1569/68, B&W VI/Vd; Stewartby p.431).
Lightly toned on a fully rounded flan with a central strike, both mintmarks clear marking out the mule variety, some light contact marks. Slightly double struck otherwise nearly very fine. Rare.
