Description

Edward the Confessor (1042-1066), Penny, Small Flan type (c.1048-1050), York mint, moneyer Arngrim. Diademed and draped bust left, legend surrounds EDPERD REX. Rev, voided short cross, legend reads +ARNGRIM ON EO, N&G ligate, annulet in the second quarter, 14mm, 1.11g (S.1175; N.818; BMC II; SCBI 2 [Hunterian], 1037).

Bright cabinet toning, outer borders showing, struck with blocky dies presenting in the legends; a fundamentally sound example. Some superficial light scratching on the reverse, very fine, charming.
