Edward the Confessor (1042-1066), Penny, PACX type, voided short cross variety (c.1042-1044), York mint, moneyer Arngrim, diademed bust left with sceptre, legend commences at top +EDPERD REXA. Rev, pellet in annulet at centre of voided short cross, letters struck in angles with York style annulet in one quarter, reads +ERNGRIM ON EOFER, 1.14g (S.1172; N.814; BMC IVa). Some peckmarks, a well struck up coin in a rare variety, with the short cross as opposed to the more conventional long cross reverse die. Very fine, rare.
