Edward the Confessor (1042-66), Penny, Trefoil quadrilateral type (c.1046-48), Winchester mint, moneyer Leodmaer, diademed bust left with sceptre, bust to bottom of coin, legend commences +EDPRD REX. Rev, quadrilateral ornament with three pellets in each angle, short voided cross, within linear circle, legend reads +LΛDIMER ON PINC, the NC ligate, 1.05g (S.1174; N.817; BMC III; SCBI 18 [Copenhagen], 1256-57).

Old cabinet tone, portrait and legends clear, the quadrilateral reverse emblem a little distorted, small deposit at 12 o’clock. One striking crack visible when held to good light. Very fine, metal stable, noted on the backing ticket as rare.
