Edward the Confessor (1042-66), Penny, pointed helmet type (1053-56), Ipswich Mint, Moneyer Leofwold, King right draped wearing helmet, holding lis headed sceptre, legend surrounds +EDPERD REX. Rev, annulet at centre of cross with tri-crescent ends, reads + LEOFWOLD ON GIPE, 1.26g (S.1179; N.829). Iridescent cabinet toning, struck on a full flan with a finely detailed portrait. Legends mainly legible, slight weak point in the strike at 11 o’clock, also corresponding on the reverse, part over punched. Good very fine
