Description

Edward VI (1547-1553), Gold Sovereign, NGC XF45. Third Period (1550-1553). Tower mint, mm. tun. Half-length figure of King right, in armour and crowned, holding sword in right hand and orb. in left, beaded and wire line inner circles, Rev. Crowned, plain, square topped shield with lion and griffin supporters, ER in cartouche below, beaded inner circle, 11.6g. (N. 1927; S. 2450). Boldly struck, Good Very Fine, the reverse better. Legend crisp. Overall pleasing with a light reddish tone. Encapsulated by NGC as XF45.
