Description

Elizabeth I (1558-1603), Gold Pound, NGC AU58. Seventh Issue, Crowned Gold Coinage, Tower mint, mm. 2 (1602). ELIZABETH DG ANG FRA ET HIB REGINA, Bust 8A left, legend surrounds. Rev. SCVTVM FIDEI PROTEGET EAM, flat topped quartered crowned shield of arms, E R flanking either side, pellet stops, double pellets after initial mark, 11.10g. (S. 2539; N. 2008; Schneider 806; Brown & Comber 2, F.24). Choice Extremely Fine and about as struck, some weak areas due to strike. Legend crisp and the mintmark 2 pronounced. Encapsulated by NGC as AU58.

Finest graded by NGC and top population. Ex. Spink Auction 65, 5th October 1988, Lot 1019 – £1,450.
