Description
Edward VI (1547-53), Half-Sovereign, Southwark mint, second period, mintmark Y, bare-headed bust facing right, legend surrounds SCVTVM FIDEI PROTEGET EVM, rosett e stops. Rev, crowned and garnished quartered oval shield dividing E to the left, R to the right, legend surrounds EDWARD VI D’G’AGL’FRA Z HIB’ REX, lozenge stops, 5.52g (N.1908; S.2435; Schneider 686).
An undeniably attractive piece, pleasing portrait with superbly detailed hair in the Kings portrait. Complete with an old accompanying Spink ticket which mentions Y over arrow on obverse, in relation to the mintmark.
