Description
Egypt Medal 1880-1889 and Khedives Star Pair awarded to Private, later Corporal, Walter Peart, 2nd Battalion Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry who served in The Nile Expedition to Relive General Gordon in Khartoum. Comprising Egypt Medal 1882-89, undated reverse, one clasp, The Nile 1884-85, (778 Pte. W. Peart. 2/ D of Corn: L.I.), Khedive’s Star dated 1884-86, unnamed as issued. Usual light pitting from Star otherwise very fine.
Walter Peart was born in Bishop’s Cleave, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire in c. 1852, he attested for the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry on the 2nd of October 1882 stating that he was 23 years and 8 months old a Labourer by profession and was serving in the 4th Battalion the Gloster Regiment, Militia. He served Home form the 2nd of October 1882 to the 1st of September 1884, Egypt from the 2nd of September 1884 to the 16th of June 1886 and Home form the 17th of June 1886 to the 1st of October 1894, being Discharged that day after 12 years with the Colours.
His Service Papers confirm Nile Expedition 1884-85 and the award of the Egypt Medal and Clasp The Nile 1884-85 and Khedive’s Bronze Star.
