Description
Elizabeth I (1558-1603), Half-Angel of Five Shillings, fifth issue (1578-82), St Michael slaying dragon right, inner circle, initial mark sword (1582-83), legend surrounding ELIZABETH DG ANG FR ET HI REGINA. Rev, ship sailing right, large quartered shield upon hull, cross above, E and rose either side, reads A DNO FACTVM EST ISTVD ET EST MIRA, 2.40g (S.2526; N.1992/1; Schneider 774; Fr.212). Fully centred in strike and well proportioned, legends clear as is St Michael, some vivid detail in the dragon. Rev, all the main lines visible in place despite some flatness. Very fine, very rare with a superb provenance trail in Lockett, Doubleday and Baldwin’s.
