Great Britain, County Durham / Tyne-and-Wear, Sunderland and Wearmouth Bank (founded in 1805, failed in 1816), John & Thomas Cooke & Co, uniface £1 banknote, dated 1 May 1806, serial number C3376, signed by Thomas Cooke (a Senior Partner in the bank), “£ONE” denomination top right and lower left corners, “I Promise to pay the Bearer on Demand ONE POUND value received” at centre, lion and crown within oval frame at left, back blank, 158mm x 98mm. A few areas of paper weakness resulting in tiny holes and tone spot in lower edge, otherwise a complete and attractive note, fine and extremely rare.
