France, Carolingians, Charles le Chauve (840-877), silver Denier, Palace mint, 1.62g (Dep. 750). About Extremely Fine, deep cabinet toning, slightly wavy flan, with collector’s ticket. Rare mint.

While most of the Carolingian mints can be identified there are some that are still uncertain. That includes the PALATINA MONETA which is differently interpreted by various sources as a travelling mint or the royal court that produced coins on demand or mint at the palace of Compiègne.
