Description

George III (1760-1820), Bank of England, Pattern Five Shillings and Sixpence struck in Copper, Bank token of 1811, set out on a thick flan, large laureate bust left, five berries in wreath, square beaded breastplate, asterixis on truncation, toothed borders both sides, legend surrounds GEORGIUS III DEI GRATIA REX. Rev, legend reads BANK/TOKEN/ 5S .6D./1811 within oak wreath laurel, I.P below wreath for J. Philip the designer, 30.24g (Bull.1999; L&S.129; Davis.37/ K/5a).

Some rust in the obverse die, few carbon spots, otherwise much as struck with a handsome mahogany tone, scarce.
