Description
George IV, Prince Frederick, Duke of York and Albany (1763-1827), Death, Large AE medal, 1827 (76mm.) by Isaac Parkes (Dublin). Bust three-quarters l., in high relief. Rev. Fame with trumpet and scroll (with the words of the Duke’s speech to the House of Lords, 25 April 1825), flies above inscribed monument. (BHM.1282; Eimer -),
Extremely Fine, usually in poor condition due to its weight!
Whilst the obverse does acknowledge the Duke as ‘A Bulwark to the British Army’, it is the medal’s reverse, quoting from the speech he gave in the Lords in support of the minority Protestants in Ireland, for whom he was a staunch supporter and vociferous against the granting of concessions to the Catholics, that is of particular interest.
