Great Mongols, temp. Töregene (AH 639-644 / 1241-1246 AD), gold Dinar, AH 641 / 1243/4 AD, Dihistan mint, reverse: al-qa’an / al-‘adil / al-a‘zam – the just Supreme Khan, 3.00g (A. 1966). Very Fine or better. A piece that is extremely rarely seen with a clear date. Rare mint, now in western Turkmenistan.
Chingiz Khan, the greatest of all Khans, chose Töregene from the Merkit tribe, to be the second wife of his son and heir Ögedei. When Ögedei Khan died in 1241, Töregene proved to be powerful enough to become Khatun (female Khan) and rule the until 1246, when she succeeded in getting her son Güyük elected as the third Great Khan.
