A 2nd Battalion, King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry
Survivors Medals of the Ambush on the Shin Ahmad Pass, Tirah, on the 29th of January 1898 group of 3, awarded to Private Arthur Shaw of the 2nd Battalion K.O.Y.L.I. comprising India Medal 1895-1902, QVR, two clasps, Punjab Frontier 1897-98, Tirah 1897-98, (4124 Pte. A. Shaw 2nd Bn K.O York. Lt. Infy.), named in running script. Queen’s South Africa Medal, 2nd type, ghost dates, 4 clasps, Belmont, Modder River, Transvaal, Wittebergen, (4124 Pte A. Shaw. 2: Yorks: Lt Inf:), King’s South Africa, 2 clasps. South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902, (4124 Pte A. Shaw. York. L.I.), both impressed naming, lightly toned very fine.

All medals contained in a Queen Victoria Christmas 1900 Chocolate Tin.

Arthur Shaw was born c.1875in Derby, Derbyshire 18 year old Moulder when he joined the King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry on the 11th of January 1893. He served Home 11th January 1893 to the 7th of December 1894, India 8th December 1894 to the 5th of May 1899, South Africa 6th of May 1899 to the 12th September 1902, Home 13th September 1902 to the 21st February 1903, With the Reserve 22nd of February 1903 to the 10th of January 1909.

His Service Papers state “Served in the Tirah Expeditionary Force on the Punjab Frontier 1897-98. Present at the action in the Shin Ahmad Pass, 29.1.98, Served South African Field Force 1899, 1900, 1901, 1902”.

Discharged, Termination of Engagement 10th of January 1909.

Sold with copy Service Papers and Copy Medal Rolls confirming all medals and clasps.
