James Core Sorbie Smith was a qualified Doctor when he was commissioned as a Lieutenant into the Royal Army Medical Corps on 11th August 1958, being given the number No.457619; having joined for National Service. James went on to see service in Malaya during the Malayan Emergency, and was subsequently promoted to Captain with the National Service List of Army Emergency Reserve of Officers on 25th February 1964.
