Henry I (1100-35), Penny, Facing bust/Cross fleury type (c.1117), Southwark, moneyer Algar, bust facing crowned and diademed within inner linear circle, legend surrounds + HERICVS REX. Rev, cross fleury with annulet in centre within inner circle, reads +ALGAR: ON: SVT, 1.24g (S.1271; N.866; BMC X).
Off centre strike with some dishing, normal for type, partial legend reading, a little soft in King’s profile. Some light cracks only visible when held up to concentrated light, metal stable. Rev, far better with a bold strike, moneyer mint script comprehensive for the type with a pleasing cross fleury motif. Near very fine for issue, reverse pleasing, rare.
