Description

Henry I (1100-35), Penny, Profile/cross fleury type (c.1102), London mint, moneyer Aelfwine, facing crowned bust left of King holding upright sceptre, legend surrounding, HENRI REX. Rev, cross fleury with annulet centre, reads +IELFPINE ON LIII, 1.28g (S.1263A; N.858; BMC II).

A pleasing example of the second type for Henry I, darkly toned with an adequate portrait, legends partially legible. Some metal annealing flaws both sides, otherwise a charming example. Near very fine for issue on a fully rounded flan, very rare.
