Description

Henry I (1100-35), Penny, Quadrilateral on cross fleury (c.1125-35), London Mint, moneyer Osbern, crowned and diademed three quarter facing bust with sceptre, legend surrounds +HENRICVS. Rev, quadrilateral with incurved sides and lis at each angle over cross fleury design, legend surrounds +OSBERN ON LVNDE, 0.84g (S.1276; N.871; BMC XV).

A darkly toned example, some porosity with few superficial flan lamination cracks; when held to half arm’s length the portrait clear despite some distortion caused by the porosity. Some fade to legends, reverse inscription legible, chip at 3 o’clock. Bold fine with all the major components in place for a weakly struck issue, an academic example of the type, scarce.
