Description
Henry VI, Restored (October 1470-April 1471), Fine Gold Angel, St Michael slaying dragon with one foot on dragon’s body, mintmark restoration cross on obverse only, legend HENRIC DI GRA REX ANGL Z FRANC. Rev, ship sailing right, quartered shield, cross above, h to left, lis to right, two ropes to left, one rope to right, reads PER CRVCE TVA SALVA NOS XPC REDE TOR, 5.08g (S.2978; N.1613; Schneider 439).
An arresting example, struck from well engraved dies, the obverse definition and detail in both the angel and dragon much as struck, legends clear, slightly ragged in the edge at five o’clock. Rev, exceptional, few die breaks and minimal contact marks, otherwise superb, especially the striations in the waves. Extremely fine, rare.
