Henry VIII (1509-47), Groat, first coinage (1509-26), profile issue, crowned bust right, mintmark Portcullis, legend surrounds HENRIC VIII DI GRA REX AGL Z FR. Rev, long cross fourchee over quartered shield of arms, reads POSVI DEV A DIVTOR E MEV, 2.81g (N.1762; S.2316). Struck on a full flan, clear legends, some weakness in strike, a well detailed portrait, especially well struck up in the hair and crown. Very fine, fastened to an excellent provenance.
