Henry VIII (1509-47), Groat, second coinage (1526-44), Tower mint, mintmark lis both sides, crowned bust in profile right, Laker bust D, legend surrounds HENRIC VIII D G R ΛGL Z FRΛNC. Rev, long cross fourchée over quartered shield of arms, saltires in fork ends, reads POSVI DEV Λ DIVTOR E MEV, 2.70g (S.2337E; N.1797). Dark tone, portrait pleasing and struck especially well in the hair, few minor areas of weakness in the armour and lower quarter of reverse coat of arms, otherwise near extremely fine.
