Description

India, Awadh, Shuja-ud-Daula (AH1167-1188/1754-1775 AD), silver Rupee, in the name of Shah Alam II, Allahabad, AH 1187 – year 14 (1773 AD), ‘Saya-e-fazle elah’ couplet, ‘sikka zad bar haft kishwar saya e fazle elah, hamie din-e- Muhammad, Shah Alam Badshah’. Rev. ‘sana 14 julus, zarb Allahabad’ at the bottom and Persian letter ‘Ain’ in the letter ‘seen’ of julus, 11.08g (Pr. -). Choice Very Fine, very rare.

Shah Alam II officially recognized Shuja-ud-Daula as the Grand Vizier of the Mughal Empire. Together they challenged the usurper Shah Jahan III.
