India Medal 1895-1902, QVR, two clasp, Punjab Frontier 1897-98, Tirah 1897-98, awarded to Private John Skinner, 2nd Battalion Sussex Regiment, (4107 Pte J. Skinner 2nd Bn. Ryl Suss: Regt.) named in running script, very fine
John Skinner served with the Royal Sussex Regiment at Chichester on the 21st of October 1892aerving until the 18th of December 1905. He attested for service with the Royal Artillery but remained with Royal Sussex until 1905 after 13 years and 59 days service. It would appear he then re-joined the Artillery in 1907 but did not state previous service. Her served from 1907 to 1919 in the Royal Field Artillery and went to France with the B.E.F. landing on the 6th of October 1914 with 35 Brigade R.F.A. He transferred to the Labour Corps in 1917. He was awarded the Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal in 1919. However, he was tried by Courts Martial and found guilty in 1912 of falsifying an answer on his Attestation papers in 1907, being “found to have previously served”. He was demobilised in 1919 and joined the 19th Battalion Essex Regiment for Garrison Duties with whom he served until 1920. His Service papers confirm medal with clasps as does Medal Roll.
Sold with copy service papers, some 23 pages, Medal Index Card and copy India Medal Roll it would appear entitled to India Medal 1895-1902, 2 clasp, 1914 Star and Clasp Tri Army LS&GC. An amazing career spanning some 28 years.
