It was from Allahabad that Prince Selim led a revolt against his father Akbar. In 1602, he held a parallel imperial court in Akbar’s fort, ignoring the royal summons to leave Allahabad and proceed to Agra. However, before his death in 1605, Akbar named him his successor; became known as Emperor Jahangir.
