Description
James I (1603-25), Shilling, second coinage (1604-19), fifth crowned bust right with double arch to crown, value behind, beaded linear circles, mintmark bell over key (1609-11), legend surrounds IACOBVS DG MAG BRIT FRA ET HIB REX. Rev, square topped quartered shield of arms, reads QVAE DEVS CONIVNXIT NEMO SEPARET, 5.27g (S.2656; N.2101).
Marginally irregular flan, often seen for this denomination, legends legible with some flatness in places. Portrait softly struck, nevertheless detailed, some emblems in reverse shield showing die distortion. Very fine, hailing from an illustrious provenance.
