Japan, Meiji (1867-1912 AD), electrum 2 Bu, c. 1868-1869, Edo mint, Kiri crests top and bottom (the national seals of Japan), in the centre the value. Rev. Characters for the Mint Official and his signature: Mitsutsugu, 3.00g (JNDA 09-29; KM C21d). Very Fine to Extremely Fine.

Made of about 22% gold and 78% silver, these popular rectangular coins are also known as ‘Samurai coins’ as they were first issued by the Tokugawa shogunate. They are officially called ‘nibu-kin’, meaning 2 gold Bu.
