Japan, Tenpo (1837-1858), gold Goryoban, c. 1837-1843, fan-shaped Kiri crest at the top and bottom, Goto family seal in a panel, with characters in the second panel for the mint official. Rev. Ho stamp and seal stamps, 89 x 51mm, 33.80g (JNDA 09-12; JC 03-21; J&V B1; KM C23; Fr. 8). Extremely Fine, some light hairlines to the surfaces.

Worth five times the face value compared to a normal Koban, the Goryoban exists only in the Tenpo era. This multiple Ryo denomination was produced only for a few years and rarely appears on the market. The gold purity of this piece is a lot higher compared to Kobans, reaching up to 84%.
