John (1199-1216), Penny, class Vc, (1204/5-1209), London mint, moneyer Ricard, facing bust slightly rounder portrait, the letter X in the form of a St Andrew’s cross, legend reads HENRICVS REX. Rev, voided short cross, four cross pommée in angles, legend surrounds +RICARD.B.ON.LV., 1.46g (S.1352; N.971; Mass. 1697 rev). Light golden tone on a symmetrical flan, fully centred strike. Good very fine.
