Khedives Sudan Medal 1896-1908 awarded to Drummer James Booth, 1st Battalion North Staffordshire Regiment who also saw Service at the Relief of Kimberley comprising, Khedive’s Sudan Medal 1896-98, one clasp, Hafir, (2688. J. Booth. N. Stafford. Regt.), very fine
James Booth attested for the North Staffordshire Regiment on the 16th of January 1889, stating that he was 18 years and 10 months old, a Porter by Trade and was, at that time serving in the 4th Battalion North Staffordshire Regiment. He served Home from the 16th of January 1889 to the 1st of July 1890, Mauritius 2nd of July 1890 to the 22nd of March 1893, Malta, 23rd of March 1893 to the 8th of October 1895, Egypt the 9th of October 1895 to the 14th of February 1897. He transferred to the Reserve on the 19th of February 1897. He re-joined The Colours on the 18th of February 1898 and sailed for South Africa on the 14th of February 1900, returning Home on the 3rd of December 1901, he was discharged from the Army on the 22nd of January 1902 after serving 13 years with the Colours.
His papers state that he participated in the Dongola Campaign in 1896, his rank is given on the Medal Roll as Drummer. His papers further state that he was entitled to the Queen’s Sudan Medal, Khedive’s Sudan Medal with Clasp Hafir, and the Queen’s South Africa Medal with the clasps, Johannesburg, Relief of Kimberley, Orange Free State and South Africa 1901
