Description

Nicephorus III (A.D. 1078-1081).

Silver Miliaresion. Mint of Constantinople.

Obverse: +ΘKE ROHΘEI TW CW ΔXΛ, nimbate Virgin orans standing on footstool, MP – ΘV on either side.
Reverse: + NIKHΦ ΔECΠ – (remainder unstruck), Nicephorus standing, wearing crown and military attire, holding a long cross in right hand and a sword within sheath in left.

Extremely rare, probably the finest known example extant, very fine.
