Rev. Title sultân al-barrayn …. , regnal year above end of third line, 30.06g (Pere 718; KM 67 – year unlisted). Very Fine.
Kenneth MacKenzie wrote to the collector on January 21, 2004 about the dates of the Tripolitan Yüzlük and specifically about this piece: “… KM 67 … lost three dates. The first is the Nuri Pere 718 … The second coin is the coin struck by the usurper ‘Ali Burghul who took over the mint from 1207 to 1209 (January 9 1795) as noted in my article (1989 – Journal of Turkish Studies). The next issue came from ‘Ali Qaramanli (Pasha) after “He regained control. My record shows that the usurper was overthrown by sons, one of them was Ahmed II in 1210, (installed by the Tunisians) who remained in office for just one year. I think therefore that the 1210 (1795) coin could.” be attributed to him, and that the one you have of 1203/10 must be the first of the yuzliks struck by Qaramanli after regaining power. However I am unsure of the sequence, but the coin is important anyway.”
