Description
Russia, Peter II (1727-1730), silver coronation jeton (21mm/2.70gm) 1728, struck in Moscow. Pedestal with cushion, imperial regalia including crown, sceptre and orb sits atop, eye of providence above, legend reads FOR NATIONAL JOY, date in exergue. Rev, inscription under crown reads PETER II / EMPEROR / OF ALL RUSSIA / CROWNED / IN MOSCOW (Diakov 66.10; Bitkin 234; Smirn. 216). Very Fine, very rare, an EF example hammered for £750 last year.
The coronation of Peter II took place in Moscow on 9 January 1728, with the Emperor and a huge entourage. He was 11 years old.
