Punjab Medal, 1848-49, two clasps, Mooltan, Goojerat, awarded to Jabez Mumford, 10th Foot, (Jabez Mumford, 10th Foot.) slight edge bump, obverse at 11 o’clock otherwise very fine.

Jabez Mumford was born in the town of Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk in March in 1813, he joined the 10th Foot at Ipswich on the 12th of January 1831 aged 17 years 9 months. He served for 20 years 174 days with the 10th, of which 8 years 9 months was served in India. He was discharged on the 13th September 1851, A Private of very good character.

His Service papers state, although incredibly difficult to read:

Present the Campaign of 1845+46 with the Army of the Sutlej. Present at the Battles of Sobraon 10th Feb 46 and afterwards at Lahore(?????).

A Campaign 1848 1849 including the whole of the xxxxxxxx the Heights before Mooltan 12 September 48, Action at xxxxxxx 7th November 1849, Surrender of the Fortress 22 January 1849.

Worthy of further research and perhaps viewing the original documents.

Presumably entitled to the Sutlej Medal with the reverse Sobraon.

Sold with copy Service papers and copy medal roll confirming the clasps Mooltan and Goojerat a good fighting soldier’s medal.
