Queen’s South Africa Medal, 1898-1902, 3rd type, no clasp, to Corporal T. D. Bell, “K” Company Mine Guard Rand Rifles, (29543 Cpl T.D. Bell. Rand Rifles.), impressed naming very fine.
Thomas Dunn Bell was born circa 1870, where his family lived at Wenhaston, Halesworth, Suffolk, and having emigrated to South Africa, then worked as a blacksmith for the West Rand Mines Limited. With the outbreak of the Boer War, he enlisted into the South African Colonial Forces at Cape Town on 25th January 1901, and then saw service as a Corporal (No.29543) with ‘K’ Company, Mine Guard, Rand Rifles.
