Queen’s South Africa Medal, 2nd type, 5 clasps, Cape Colony, Tugela Heights, Orange Free State, Relief of Ladysmith, Transvaal, awarded to Private Francis Sudbury 4th Battalion King’s Royal Rifle Corps, (5146 Pte F. Sudbury, K.R.R.C.), very fine.

Francis Sudbury enlisted into the King’s Royal Rifle Corps on the 4th May 1889 aged 20 years and 3 months, a Labourer from Derby. He served until discharged to the Reserve on the 4th May 1896, being recalled to the Colours under the Army service Act on the 13th November 1988.

He served Home, India, Burma, South Africa during his military career being awarded the King’s and Queen’s South Africa Medals, (Copy rolls confirm medals and clasps). He was discharged from the Army on the 14th May 1902, it is a possibility that he also served during the Great War in a home posting. He died on the 20th April 1949 aged 80 years.
