Edgar Horton joined the King’s Royal Rifle Corps on the 2nd of June 1896stating that he was 19 years old a Guilder by Trade and was a serving member of the 7th Battalion KRRC. He served Home from the 2nd of June 1896 to the 4th of July 1897, Mauritius from the 5th of July 1897 to the 5th of April 1899, India 6th of April 1899 to the 17th of September 1899, South Africa from the 18th of September 1899 to the 28th of July 1900, Ceylon from the 29th of July 1900 to the 7th of January 1901, India the 8th of January 1901 to the 9th of March 1904, Home 10th of March 1904 to the 11th of June 1912. 16 years with the Colours. He was Discharged after completing Service. He was awarded the Queen’s South Africa Medal with 3 clasps, Defence of Ladysmith, Transvaal and Laing’s Nek, Service Papers confirm award.
