Description
Royal Fleet Reserve Long Service Medal, GVR, awarded to Senior Petty Officer Walter Holmes Royal Fleet Reserve, who had served aboard HMS Repulse at the second battle of Heligoland Bight; (310282 CH H: B 11293 W. Holmes. S.P.O. R.F.R.) toned good/fine.
Walter Holmes joined the Royal Navy on the 15th June 1906 for initially 12 years-service; he served during the Great War aboard H.M.S. Royal Arthur, a Scapa Flow Guard Ship he was transferred to HMS Repulse on the 8th April 1917, he served aboard repulse at the second battle of Heligoland Bight where Repulse fired 54 15-inch shells during the battle and scored one hit on the light cruiser SMS Konigsberg. He was eventually discharged to shore on the 28th February 1919 where he joined the Royal Fleet Reserve.
