There are 171 Porters with Victorian Admiralty papers. There are plenty of J Porters, a few WJ Porters, but only two JW Porters. One was paid off after a year of service.
The other J,W. Porter’s papers are sold with the Medal, as the only J.W. porter who served long enough to qualify for the LS&GC; John William Porter was born on the 23rd of February 1849, joining the Royal Navy on the 23rd of February 1867 and rising to the rank of Chief Boatswain in Charge at Hayling island, he was discharged to Pension on the 23rd of February 1904.
