Description

RUSSIA. Construction of the Blagoveshchensk Bridge of the Neva River in 1850. Silver medal (75mm./166.39gm.) by A. Klepikov & A Lyalin. Double-headed Imperial Russian eagle holding thunderbolt flying over the completed bridge, rev. Hercules and Minerva walk together across flowing water supplied by the river goddess Neva, Hercules’s club symbolising the bridge. (Diakov-594.1 (R2), Smirnov-549). A superbly strong strike and about ‘as struck’ with fully proof-like fields, attractive grey and blue iridescence to patina. Excessively rare in silver.
