Description
An interesting 2nd Boer War and Great War Imperial Yeomanry and Great War Leicestershire Regiment attached Royal Flying Corps and Royal Air Force Group of Three awarded to Captain C.C. Webb comprising; Queen’s South Africa Medal, 3rd type, three clasps Cape Colony, Transvaal, Wittebergen, (5137 Sgt C.C. Webb. 8th Coy 4th Imp: Yeo:); 1914-1920 British War and Victory Medals, (Capt. C.C. Webb. R.A.F.), polished very fine.
Clement Cornwall Webb was commissioned into the Leicestershire Regiment as 2nd Lieutenant on the 10th September 1915, and posted to the Provisional Battalion, promoted from Lieutenant to Temporary Captain, Provisional battalion 4th April 1916; he was seconded from the Leicestershire regiment to the Royal Flying Corps on the 11th October 1917 as an Equipment Officer 3rd Class transferring to the RAF on the 1st April 1918. He served as Captain Adjutant South West Area No 10 Group during 1919. He was placed on the unemployed list on the 23rd October 1919.
His service papers confirm the Queen’s South Africa Medal and British War and Victory Medals; his papers state Queen’s South Africa medal with 5 clasps but the medal seems to be as issued. His Great War pair was claimed and authorised in 1922 and sent to 29, Colville Square, Bayswater W11.
