Description
A Stretcher Bearers DCM and MM pair awarded to L/Cpl RM Mc Sorley, 9th Battalion Loyal North Lancs Regiment who won the MM on Messines Ridge in 1917 and his DCM on Westhoek Ridge during the battle of Passchendaele on the 10th August 1917. Comprising DCM, GVR, (13733 L. Cpl. R.M. McSorley. 9/ L.N. Lanc. R.); Military Medal, GVR, (13733 L.Cpl. R. McSorley. 9/L.N. Lanc: R.), toned very fine.

For Conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when in charge of stretcher bearers. With splendid disregard of danger he brought in wounded men from exposed positions and dressed them under continuous shell and rifle fire. His exceptional fearlessness and devotion in attending to the wounded under continual heavy fire set an example to the stretcher bearers, which enabled all the wounded to be successfully evacuated.
Sold with an old label that states his DCM action is mentioned on page 99 of the 25th Division’s History of the Great War Lance Corporal R. McSorley was a native of Wigan.
