Henry William Mills joined the Royal Horse Artillery in Woolwich on the 1st of February 1898 as a Boy soldier aged 14. He served Home 1st February 1898 to the 7th of September 1914, BEF France 8th September 1914 to the 22nd of December 1917 and Home 23rd of December 1917 to the 16th of March 1919 when he was demobilised at his own request. He was awarded the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal with gratuity, service papers confirm.
